I’ve tried to track my most productive hours and the moments I had felt at my lowest not because I was going through a hard phase but rather because I felt so loathed and unmotivated to do anything. Practically
In my search, I discovered it. My phone!
Every time I felt heavy to lift myself and accomplish the things I had to do, it had to be that my phone was the first thing I picked up after Morning Devotion or that I had binged on Instagram for hours or just done something not so meaningful and spent time on it
For instance, I set out to do A, B, and C and at the end of the day, I've barely finished A or at least managed to finish leaving B and C staring back at me in the face
And here is what I've realized. The devil will do anything to keep you “busy” but idly, he doesn't need you to sin technically, he already has machinery placed in your hands. “Shebi it's phone?” “Don't worry as long as this one is with a phone, she won’t grow”
I believe, I firmly believe that the reason why some of us are still sucking milk and not yet cracking bones is because of this device we have in our hands.
It is very unharming in use but can become an alarming threat to our lives if we are not wisdom-driven about how we use it.
Sometimes, some of us try to hide under the scope of “my work is online”, or “I get potential work opportunities online” Yadayadayada. Woooo, make I follow you talk truth
How many times were you on your phone for a long duration and all you did was actually that work or that thing?
(Side eyeee)
See Ehn, talk is cheap. Very very cheap
Anyone can say anything. It's the reason why people say one thing and do another
Oya wait let’s do something (take a deep breath)
Raise your hand. One of them
Let's do a put-a-finger-down game
Put a finger down if you picked up your phone to check one thing but ended up spending hours doom-scrolling
Put a finger down if you’ve ever fallen for the trap of “just a little social media to relax” but social media was later telling you to relax instead
Put a finger down if you carry your phone practically everywhere. And you know what I mean by “everywhere”
Put a finger down if you've ever made a resolve to use your phone less for a period only to end up almost worse
Put a finger down if you only read your Bible on your phone
I suspect that you should have at least three or more (or all) fingers down by now
But heyyyy
Funny not funny
Guys, let's discuss
This is a trap
It's practically a deceitful way to swoop us off the right track
To strip us of fellowship, intimacy with God
To blind us from the truth hidden in our Bibles
To shield us from receiving the light of God’s word
See except we properly plan this thing out and create a disciplined schedule on how we will control our phones and not let it control us, I won't lie we’d be stuck ooo
Stuck and stunted
If your excuse is that you earn money with your phone still make an effort to strike a compulsory balance
Our phones can't be dominating us now
There's too much at stake to allow that to prevail
We must SHUN this distraction. It has too much of our attention already but I believe that with mindfulness we can redeem the time
Above all
Pray about all things
Including this unconfessed phone addiction
I just said I should share with you, my people, this piece of my mind
And I apologize for not writing to you in the last two weeks. Bear with me🐻
Selah
See you in the week after this one
Love
