Reading my Bible this past week, I was neck deep into the book of Samuel and out of the many amazing tales in that book one stood out to me. It happens to be the only story I noted down as well and as God would have it, my Pastor spoke about it today in church. That was my go-ahead for this post
Before I begin, do you know there was a time when David pretended to be mad, like mentally insane because Achish the King of Gath recognized him and he feared that he would send him back to Saul (this was the period Saul was seeking his [David] life)
Read 1st Samuel 21:11-15. I had a good laugh reading this story and it was my first time hearing it too so it was more amusing.
Another thing that still makes me wonder is the love Jonathan had for David knowing that his father Saul, was after the life of David.
David mentioned after Jonathan’s death that his (Jonathan's) love towards him surpassed the love of women and it struck me.
Dear Lord, where is my own Jonathan bayi?
Okay okay
Let's get to it!
The Ark- Uzzah-David-Obededom
In 2nd Samuel, after David had already become King, he decided to bring back the ark of God that was captured by the Philistines in 1 Samuel 5.
I beg to digress, you should also read of Dagon, the god whose house the Ark of God was taken to when it was captured. I promise you will have a good laugh. Read it in different translations too. The Lord bless you.
Alright! Back to the main story
In 2nd Samuel 6, David had just defeated and utterly destroyed another round of the Philistines when he arose and with all the people that were with him to Baale of Judah to bring back the Ark of God. (Baale…. Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Lol)
They are successfully able to take the Ark in verse 3 and bring it out of the house of a certain Abinadab whose sons drove the new cart where the Ark was placed. Now after they had journeyed a little while, playing all kinds of instruments before the Lord. Praising Him, the oxen the Ark was placed on stumbles out of supposed precaution, Uzzah (one of the sons of Abinadab) stretches forth his hand to hold the Ark
“And when they came to Nachon’s threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled.”
II Samuel 6:6 NKJV
Surprisingly, there is a sharp plot twist in verse 7
“Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God.”
II Samuel 6:7 NKJV
To be sincere, would you have blamed Uzzah? But God’s ways are not our ways hence God can’t be questioned. David became afraid (anew) of the Lord that day verse 9, and then he began to weigh his options.
Don’t forget that David was returning the ARK to Israel but seeing what had happened, David devised evil in his heart. You will soon why I call it evil.
King David decided that the Ark be taken to the house of a man named Obededom, the Gittite. Now when I read that passage, I said to myself, David doesn't love this Obededom guy, you know why? He didn’t consider he and his family. If one could die just by touching the Ark, how much more when it is being carried into your house?
It is finished😂
If David loved Obededom so much, he should have carried the Ark to his own city now, Abi? So that whatever would happen would happen in his house, but as a tactical man he had a plan b, Obededom’s house
Again, I put it to you that God’s ways are not our ways because tell me why the Ark in carried into Obdedeom’s house and the Lord began to bless him, bless him so much that the same King to hear about how much God had been good to Obededom and all his household since the Ark was placed in his house
“The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household.”
II Samuel 6:11 NKJV
“Now it was told King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God.” So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness.”
II Samuel 6:12 NKJV
It's funny how David heard of how good the Lord has been those three months to Obededom and decided to bring the Ark of God back to the City of David
But then, after reading the story, I started to ponder on something and I wrote it down in one of my notepad
“The same thing that killed one blesses another, why?”
I don’t have the answer to this question either, let’s call it a mystery to be resolved…. You too think about it lol.
My aim in this post is to urge you to read your Bibles more. Devote yourself to it more and you'd be amazed at how much you don’t know about God’s Word.
If you can read to pass an exam, you can read the Bible and understand it with the Help of the Holy Spirit. Dear sibling, there are several ways to grow in God, there are several things that make God delight in a man and this is one.
In recent times my favourite translation to read has been the NKJV (New King James Version). All the same, find what works for you.
Till next week

Same here!!!! I found the part of Dagon very funny- I think the lord was even merciful. I've also taken an interest in NKJV, and I always forget the mischievous side or perhaps tactical side of my beloved- David😂😂, especially in this story.
This brings to mind the fact that we are now the embodiment of His presence, in other words, His temple! and we thrive more when we let go and let God, especially when we don't know what we are doing! Like the way Obededom didn't know the reason behind why the sacred ark was kept in his house!
Man cannot help God's temple, only God can help and build his temple!!
An awe-inspiring story!
I love the plot twist.>>>>🥹
