My Thoughts on a Few Discourses

Lately, I’ve been thinking and asking myself if some situations we label and frame as attacks or arrows of the enemy are actually sponsored by the “enemy” we presume, or by our own hands.

I’ll give you context. Sometime during the week, I went to make my hair somewhere I usually don’t, for the first time. I had heard one or two good things about the place, so I decided to give it a try.

I got there excited, ready to make my hair because it had really been on my list. We had to lose my default twists first. That’s my favourite hairstyle, by the way. If you know me, you know this. Lol.

The owner arrived, ready to start my hair. I had quite some time on my hands, so I wasn’t in a hurry to leave within a set time frame.

She began my hair, but I noticed that as we progressed, she was severely distracted by many things and spent two hours on a gap she should have covered in one hour. Everything, no matter how minute, got her attention. Every greeting from someone passing by, every random word or question from one of her apprentices, every response she had to give, or every story she wanted to tell.

I started to get really uneasy because even though I had time on my hands, I was getting upset with the distractions and how much they were affecting the progress. Altogether, we spent close to nine hours on a hairdo that should have taken roughly five to six hours. I left there partly angry, to be honest, because I got home late and was walking really fast.

But then I started to ask myself, isn’t this how God sets a destination for us most times, but because we are carried away by many distractions on our way, we take a longer time to reach that point or mark? Isn’t this how we are plagued by many things that easily besets (ensnare) us, like Paul describes in Hebrews 12:1?

[1] Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

See, I named this piece Replicable Dysfunctionality because to me, it seems there is a pattern where, in the ways of a man, he is set to destroy himself by his own hands. There is a scheme where the enemy does not necessarily have to send attacks your way because within you is a wired mechanism set to keep you from your own progress.

You’ve seen these things happen before in the lives of certain people, whether close to you or from afar. You’ve seen distractions limit people you know are capable of more and are very brilliant. Maybe in this case, the person is you. You know it deep down within you that you were made for more. You know that this life you are currently living is not the one God made you for. You feel it deep down that you are somewhat wasting but you don't know what to do.

You’ve seen this before. Don’t fool yourself. Don’t lie to yourself that you are special and it can’t happen to you. If you don’t do anything to break free intentionally and deliberately, it will happen.

You know that this call is great. You know that this burden in your heart is not random. You know that God has put something in you. You know that God has made you salt, the salt of the earth. But you also know you are distracted. You know that some of the things hindering you are not extreme attacks, but simply a lack of focus.

God said I should tell you today that the life He put in you and placed you as a steward over is not your own. Do you hear??? So you can't afford to do it as you like.

Someone I look up to once described this to me as “fire on your clothes.” She said that when you understand the urgency of God’s assignment and realise that you truly don’t have time to frolic around, it will feel as if there is fire on your clothes.

She asked me, if your clothes were burning in public, would you leave them on your body to burn?

In essence, if only you knew how the Almighty God, in all His superiority, is counting on you to fulfil His agenda, you would urgently trade your distractions for Him. You would cling to Him. You would want to hear what He has to say. You would want to obey Him swiftly. You would desire Him truly. You would want to please Him.

My prayer for you today is that the Lord will set you free from every distraction the enemy may have blinded you with.

Today, an end comes to addictions in every form.

Doomscrolling.

Websites you should not be on.

Inordinate desire for fame.

Manipulation in every form.

Today comes your release.

I love you dearly, sibling. The Lord has set you free. Walk in this reality and do not go back to the old life. These distractions are out to kill you. Jesus loves you more than these distractions.
