Wrong Route, Same Destination
You can imagine the shock on our faces when we saw a major landmark that was #200 away from our 360° journey
I and one of my girls Tumi did a little outing today. We had four locations to hit, but somehow, we only made it to three. On our way to the third location, we decided to call someone for directions. Although I don't blame her, our said “directee” didn't quite give us the exact directions we needed and that's how it all began
Tumi and I happily hopped on a bike thinking “Oh yes, we were smart girls on Lagos road”, Tumi was packing her long black dress, I didn't really need to adjust mine since it was a bit more moderate, knee length. We set off, talking in between as the bike man went on.
When we arrived at the designated bus stop, we asked another woman for directions. She told us to cross the road to the other side and walk straight down or take a bike. As we were crossing, a madman was also on the road and walking towards our direction, that was when Tumi suggested that we should do a little experiment, if you're a believer, you know what I mean!
We crossed the road sha and it happened that the next person we asked for directions was a bike man. I don't know why I assumed he was a Yoruba man, maybe it was because he wore an Ankara fit, a dark man who looked chubby. It was not until I heard the dialect and twisted Hausa tongue that I was convinced otherwise.
When we were to alight, I felt a nudging to ask him how to get to the specific street we were heading to. That's when he told us it was actually behind us, and he'd need to take us there again. He was like “Ah, that one dey back oo, how much you go pay”, Eventually, we arrived at our destination, feeling pretty accomplished.
My shoes were quite dusty already, so I wasn't really feeling comfortable any longer, I just wanted to get done and go home.
But the real shock came when we left the place and were about to hop on another bike, wasting even more money. The bike man told us to just walk down the road in front of us and that was where our eyes opened.
As we walked on Tumi said she was thirsty, so we stopped to get water.
Let me add that I can't remember the last time I saw a semi-blocked cold bottle water.
We got two bottles (of course, we were just two) and while Tumi was gulping on, I was almost screaming in pain because my teeth were freezing. For about a year or two now, my teeth have had high sensitivity to sugary and cold items. And I mean, sugar of any kind, as long as it contains sugar, there'd be a reaction
You can imagine our shock when we walked down and saw a major landmark that was only 200 naira away from where we'd started our 360° journey for a 90° trip. Our mouths were open and that was when Tumi started saying something like “I knew it! The last time we came here I remember that this was the road”, I was like “Why didn't you talkkkkkkkkk?” then I kept saying “No one must know about this”. Too embarrassing if you ask me.
As if to compensate for our wrong route trip, we stopped by Mummy Chisom’s place to get hot doughnuts and Puff Puff. Tumi was gisting me about different things sha
While we were in the Keke, I kept telling her laughing, that we must not let anyone know about this, but see who is doing the exposing now.
We talked about different things and touched on different topics ranging from friendships to school given that Tumi has quite several exams to write this year
We eventually arrived home, glory to God, no one gets to see my dusty shoes again (our houses are opposite each other) we bade each other goodbye and I started to ponder on our sojourn
Isn't this how some of us go the longer way due to poor discernment and lack of proper guidance from our Father God? And it's not that God isn't available to help us every step of the way, it is that we somehow pride in our abilities and feel we can navigate life all by ourselves
Pastor Nath has one funny prayer that he says during HC, “May you not marry a he-goat”, in this context may we not be the he-goat due to our stubbornness and thought of being wiser than God
You cannot be wiser than your maker
You would never be
We must submit all to go and save the extra T-fare
It is really dumb to assume that we can do life without God
With God, we can cover more ground with speed
But first! We must trust and obey Him to lead us as our ultimate Shepherd
“Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].”
Proverbs 16:3 AMP
With that being said
See you next week
